Root beer floats are so…yesterday. If you’re over the age of 21, that is. This summer is seeing a surge in a trend that replaces root beer with wine, making for a tasty and trendy hot weather drink.

I have vivid childhood memories of visiting our local A&W every week following my parents’ co-ed softball games. There was never a debate over what to order as we never turned down a chance to indulge in a root beer float. There was something special about drinking a float from an ice-cold frosty mug…it just tasted better than anything we could make at home.

I am still partial to A&W root beer when making floats at home for my crew, but the latest summer beverage trend is giving root beer a run for its money. Varieties of wine are replacing the trusty root beer favorite to create a new, indulgent treat that left us wondering why we hadn’t thought of it sooner.

The Slow Roasted Italian blog first introduced us to the Strawberry Wine Ice Cream Float and we were hooked. But, the possibilities are endless when it comes to creating the perfect wine float. With so many flavors and varieties of classic and fruity wines, ice creams and fresh fruit, there is sure to be a combination that will rock your summer.
